Having put together the Great British Car Journey car collection, we realised just how much cars have changed and improved in the last 50 years and we wanted to give you the opportunity to drive them as well as look at them
Why Did We Start Drive Dads Car?
The Great British Car Journey car collection is a result of our founder : Richard Usher’s realisation that the popular cars of his childhood, youth and even middle age have all but disappeared.
“My earliest car memories are of my Dad’s Morris Minor which was followed by a Singer Gazelle Convertible and then a Ford Corsair. I remember sitting in the back of an Austin A40 in which my Mum was learning to drive and her first proper car which was a Vauxhall Viva HA.”
All the above are now exceedingly rare but so are the cars of the 70s ,80s and 90s : the Escorts, Cortinas, Sierras…etc etc etc.
Just seeing these cars again opens the door to waves of nostalgia but we thought : wouldn’t it be even better if our visitors could have a go behind the wheel?
Drive Dad’s Car, Mum’s car, the car you learned in or the one you always wanted!
Drive Dads Car is a tongue-in-cheek title for our ultimate trip down memory lane and of course it may be Mum’s , your first or the one you always wanted that you choose to drive.
One thing is certain : Memories of people, places, days out, holidays will be prompted by the smell, the noise and the whole experience of revisiting the past on four (or even three) wheels.
We really hope that you enjoy your visit and that we will see you again soon.
