The MGF / TF saw the MG badge back on a two seater sports car which was the spiritual successor to the much loved MGB. This car should have really taken the fight to Mazda’s very popular and successful MX5 . Unfortunately changes of ownership and an inherently complex design meant that sales were never on a par with the little Mazda and the MG gained a reputation for unreliability and expensive running costs.
In hindsight, the mid mounted engine and Hydrogas suspension were in stark contrast to the Mazda’s conventional but bullet proof layout although the styling of the MG was more adventurous than the early MX 5 which looked a bit bland. In the end, it was the Mazda which achieved virtual immortality whilst the MG has become a real bargain as a modern Classic and the last two seater sports MG designed and built in Britain.
This car is also available to drive but if you are too young to drive or just feel more comfortable as a passenger then this 10 minute experience is a great option
