Treat Mum like a Queen at Great British Car Journey on Mothers’ Day

It’s all about mums right now on Mother’s Day.

The popular classic car visitor attraction is rolling out the red carpet and putting up the bunting for mums everywhere in celebration of Mothers’ Day

From the daily school run, ferrying to after school clubs and pick-ups from friends’ houses, mums behind the wheel have played a vital role in all our childhoods.

To ensure they get the recognition they deserve, Ambergate-based Great British Car Journey has created a very royal driving experience complete with red carpet, a glass of fizz and afternoon tea.

Mums can enjoy a chauffeur driven ride in either a Daimler V8 Long wheelbase Limo, the very same model the Queen used between 2001 – 2007 or a 1988 Daimler DS420 Limousine, the last car ever built of this model was presented to the Queen.

During the 10-minute chauffeur driven experience, mum will be treated to a glass of fizz in car and a cream tea in the café before enjoying the trip down memory lane through the Great British Car Journey.

The very special chauffeured driving experience is the brainwave of Great British Car Journey founder Richard Usher, who said: “I have some great memories of my mum driving my brother and me in her Mini Cooper. She was a great driver; far better than my father if the truth be told!

“I think it’s fair to say that mums do a lot of the ferrying around where children are concerned. This Mother’s Day I wanted to give them a break and offer something different and I think a drive in a luxury classic car without squabbling children on the back seat absolutely fits the bill.” It’s the perfect Mother’s Day gift.”

The special chauffeur-driven Mother’s Day Drive Mum’s Car experience costs just £35.

Mum can also take to the wheel herself and drive more than 30 other classic British cars, including the original Mini, on a private route at Great British Car Journey in Ambergate.

All drives include entrance to the Great British Car Journey classic car visitor attraction.

A new Derbyshire visitor attraction set to open in 2021

A brand new classic car visitor attraction is set to open in Derbyshire later this year.

Great British Car Journey will open in summer 2021.

The announcement follows the signing of a lease on the former Wire Works site in Ambergate, Derbyshire.

The site, which is located just off the A6 in between Derby and Matlock, is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment ahead of Great British Car Journey opening.

Originally due to open in 2020, plans for the attraction had to be shelved following serious health issues with two of its founders. Now back to full health, Great British Car Journey is out of the garage and back on the road and is all set to open next year with even more cars joining the original line up.

Located beside the River Derwent and within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, more than 130 classic British cars, which were at the forefront of a global transport revolution, will be exhibited at the new family-friendly attraction.

The attraction is the brainchild of former Auto Windscreens and Blyton Park circuit owner Richard Usher. He explained: “Signing the lease is a real line in the sand and puts us on track for opening in 2021. The enforced break, through both ill health and the pandemic, means Great British Car Journey is coming back stronger, having given us the opportunity to acquire even more fantastic British made and designed classic cars.”

Charting the history of a story that has never been told, the covered exhibition features vehicles from a bygone age, including Austin Sevens and Morris Minors as well as the more modern classics including the original Mini, Ford Cortina and Vauxhall Cavalier.

Alongside the exhibition, gift shop and café the Great British Car Journey will take visitors through the golden years of British car design and manufacturing from the 1930s – 1990s using an audio-visual device.

The Great British Car Journey will also boast a driving route on the four-acre site for the unique Drive Dad’s Car experience.

Drive Dad’s Car will allow visitors to take for a test drive with an instructor in a selection of over 30 iconic British cars from the Austin Seven to a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit. That old car smell and an analogue driving experience virtually guarantees a wave of nostalgia for times gone by.

Richard added: The team and I are tremendously excited about the launch of Great British Car Journey and the Drive Dad’s Car experience in 2021. It will be a fabulous addition to the many attractions in and around the Peak District and Derbyshire.”
