You might be surprised when you have a passenger ride in this sporty little number
Buoyed by the success of the Scimitar and conscious that MG had stopped making two seaters, Reliant launched the SS1 in 1984 with plans to make at least 1000 per year. Unfortunately this was the time of the hot hatch and the SS1 never really took off.
The styling by Michelotti was not his finest effort and the performance provided by the Ford CVH engine was not particularly sparkling. The MG Metro and Fiesta XR2 were battling the Peugeot 205 GTI and the new Reliant didn’t provide the same fizz.
In a ten year production run, just over 1500 were made with a later option having a turbocharged Nissan engine which gave it hot hatch performance …too late.
This car is also available to drive but if you are too young to drive or just feel more comfortable as a passenger then this 10 minute experience is a great option
