Triumph Stag Automatic Drive

Triumph Stag Automatic Drive

£75.00

Another chance to try V8 power when you drive this 1970s cult 4 seater convertible

The Stag was conceived at a time when Triumph was about to become embroiled in the British Leyland mess. Styled by Michelotti, it looked great and still does. The decision to use a new V8 engine looks misguided with hindsight when there were other engines available in house with proven reliability.

Inevitably launched later than planned, the Stag ran into reliability issues involving overheating and was perhaps too conservative in shape for the American market where it was hoped it would sell well. As a result, less than 26,000 were produced between 1970 and 77 ,although they have a keen following now and specialists have been able to cure the engine issues.
